Some leaves have more mass than others, and make a stronger design. There are times when it's fun to have a 'sketchy' feeling in the tile, and I will use a finer leaf, like the birch leaf on the left here.

In large tiles, I often use maple, cottonwood, oak, elm and gingko leaves.

Once in a while, a client will pick and dry leaves from their property and send them to me for inclusion in their tiles. That's a satisfying process.
